“A Closer Look at African American Men and High Blood Pressure Control: A Review of Psychosocial Factors and Systems-Level Interventions” highlights resources and systems-level interventions that focus on high blood pressure control among African American men. The information in this book will provide valuable guidance to state and local government agencies, health care organizations, nonprofit organizations, and other decision makers that work to facilitate positive changes in their states and communities. A systems-level intervention is defined as a change in policy, legislation, training, or environmental supports that impacts individual and community-level outcomes. In this book you will find information on lessons learned, considerations, and recommendations for public health programs, in hopes that the information will not only increase the number of systems-level interventions for African American men and blood pressure control, but also provide answer to questions that exist for current interventions. This book summarizes what other public health programs are engaged in and provides the contact information of those programs to support efforts of cross-program learning. Systems-level interventions can focus on organizations, providers, patients, and the health care system as a whole, and also includes media campaigns. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention contracts with RTI International to gather information on system-level interventions through input from an expert panel, key informant interviews conducted with individuals implementing interventions, and from a search of the peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed literature. The review also summarizes data on the burden of high blood pressure and discusses the psychosocial factors associated with having the condition and accessing treatment. Lastly, the review identifies resources on men's health that may be useful when considering the implementation of a new program or expanding and existing one.~

Why do so many African American film characters seem to have magical powers? And why do they use them only to help white people? When the actors are white, why is the sound track so commonly performed by African Americans? And why do so many white actors imitate black people when they wish to express strong emotion? As Krin Gabbard brilliantly reveals in Black Magic, we duly recognize the cultural heritage of African Americans in literature, music, and art, but there is a disturbing pattern in the roles that blacks are asked to play-particularly in the movies. Many recent films, including The Matrix, Fargo, The Green Mile, Ghost, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Pleasantville, The Bridges of Madison County, and Crumb, reveal a fascination with black music and sexuality even as they preserve the old racial hierarchies. Quite often the dependence on African American culture remains hidden-although it is almost perversely pervasive. In the final chapters of Black Magic, Gabbard looks at films by Robert Altman and Spike Lee that attempt to reverse many of these widespread trends.

Serving African American Children PDF Download. Download free ebook of Serving African American Children in PDF format or read online by Sondra Jackson,Sheryl Brissett-Chapman 9781412833929 Published on by Transaction Publishers

Serving African American Children was initiated to present an African American perspective on child welfare issues affecting African American children. The chapters in this volume challenge the child welfare community to ensure that all African American children receive protection, nurturing, and an improved quality of life; to create and sustain mutual communication and support through program development; to ensure that African American consultants are involved in the evaluation of agencies where African American populations represent a significant proportion of the service population; and to increase African American leadership through education and training opportunities in preparation for executive level positions. Major chapters and contributors to Serving African American Children include: |Family Preservation and Support Services: A Missed Opportunity for Kinship Care| by Julia Danzy and Sondra M. Jackson; |Achieving Same-Race Adoptive Placements for African American Children| by Ruth G. McRoy, Zena Oglesby, and Helen Grape; |African American Families and HIV/AIDS: Caring for Surviving Children| by Alma J. Carten and Ilene Fennoy; |A Rite of Passage Approach Designed to Preserve the Families of Substance-Abusing African American Women| by Vanesta L. Poitier, Makini Niliwaambieni, and Cyprian Lamar Rowe; and |An Afrocentric Program for African American Males in the Juvenile Justice System| by Aminifu R. Harvey and Antoinette A. Coleman. The chapters reflect a variety of policy, research, and practice issues; clinical techniques and treatment models; and new perspectives in child welfare. The theme that runs throughout each chapter is the grave concern about the overrepresentation of African American children and families in the child welfare system, and about the limited--if not missing--influence of the African American perspective on policy and practice. Serving African American Children is a book of vital importance and should be read by all social workers, sociologists, African American studies specialists, and professionals in the field of child welfare.

She'd thought he was avoiding her, all those missed meetings and opportunities to meet that never quite happened... Clayton Gallagher knows that he shouldn't spend any more time feeding his fascination with the charming, outgoing and delightfully beautiful artist - eighteen months of pining is enough! Who is the man shaking up the GOP? What does he really stand for? How far will he go in his pursuit of power? This is THE TRUTH ABOUT TRUMP He is one of the world’s most successful businessmen—and a man who many Americans love to hate. So how did Donald Trump become a serious contender in the race for the country’s highest office? His critics think his run for president is a marketing campaign for the Trump brand. His supporters believe that he can make America great again. The only thing both sides can agree on is that Trump is a man whose appetite for wealth, attention, power, and conquest is insatiable. In this up-close-and-personal biography, author Michael D’Antonio draws upon extensive and exclusive interviews with Trump himself to present the full story behind this American icon—from his early life to the headlines of today. “Carefully reported and fair-minded.”—USA Today “A brisk and entertaining read.” —The Washington Post Previously published in hardcover as Never Enough.
